the sun´ll come out . . eventually

¡hola los estados unidos!

it´s a drizzly saturday afternoon here in bilbao, españa.
had a very soggy trek to the library (which happens to directly face the guggenheim museum, tragic) because my computer absolutely refuses to plug into a european outlet. alas, no time to figure any of this out because everything related to work and or information retrieval of any kind closes promptly at 2:30p on friday only to open again monday morning. so i´ll be experiencing radio silence for another 30 hours or so, then back online monday afternoon, hopefully from the comfort of my own laptop.

so much has happened i hardly know where to begin.
obviously i can´t share everything, that would just take far too long and be far too boring.

as many of you know, i´m living with a host family. a mother, carmen, su pareja: josé, and her daughter, paula. it´s been quite a period of adjustment, and i can only assume the downward spiral has yet to commence, becuase everything has been running rather smoothly. with the exception of the over-feeding problem many of us american students are experiencing. if you´re unfamiliar, let me explain. apparently spanish ´mothers´ assume that americans either eat three (three course) meals a day or are starving themselves. this is a problem when it comes to lunch at 4p and then dinner right around 9p.
no, no, no, en serio. estoy bien. ¡NO TENGO HAMBRE!

anyway, aside from the flight to germany as well as the airport in düsseldorf being in german, or dutch or danish or whatever language wasn´t english, and the no money no cell phone no metro pass problems, everything has gone according to plan. which i am happy to report that two days later, i am now in possession of 300€, an international cellphone from movistar, and an unlimited monthly metro pass. all thanks to my very own personal initiative. and elementary knowledge of the spanish language.

right now, 7:30a U.S. time, 1:30p Spanish-land time, i am about to depart from the library, grab some pinchos for lunch with a fellow expatriate from grand valley and head back to casa de carmen to enjoy a siesta and perhaps watch a little pasapalabra.

hasta luego, ¡agur!
